Saturday Sip – Lapu Lapu at the Tambu Lounge Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World isn’t just for kids and I love the variety of cocktails you can find all of the parks and resorts, except for the mostly dry Magic Kingdom.  For my new series, Saturday Sips, I’m going to share with you my very favorite drinks from all over the world.  To start us off, of course, sharing with you a great drink from Walt Disney World.

Head to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on the top floor and you might think it’s just a waiting area for the oh so popular restaurant ‘Ohana.  But if you look closely, you’ll see a little bar area tucked in the corner.  This is my hidden gem.  I discovered the Tambu Lounge many years ago and I’ve been visiting, at least once a trip, ever since.  It’s a fun place because the atmosphere is low key.  There’s seating around the bar, a few tables and chairs around a television and then couch and chair seating in the waiting area for the main restaurant.  This place is come as you are.  You can wear park gear or dinner attire and feel right at home.  It’s a perfect stop after a long day in the parks.

The Tambu Lounge offers a small appetizer menu with a few things actually from ‘Ohana.  So if you can’t get a reservation but love the chicken wings and bread pudding, this is a great alternative.  But the real reason I love the Tambu is because of the Lapu Lapu.  The Lapu Lapu is Myers’s Original Dark Rum, Tropical Fruit Juices served in a fresh Pineapple topped with Goslings 151 Rum.  All of that can be yours for $14.00 which I know sounds expensive for a cocktail but keep in mind you are at Walt Disney World.  Here’s a tip – after you’ve sucked down your first one, save your pineapple!  The bar will refill it for less than the original drink cost.  They’ll give you a cup and you can just poor it back into your pineapple and start sipping away to a tropical paradise.  Most people really enjoy the Lapu Lapu because it isn’t too sweet and it isn’t too strong but you can taste the alcohol so you know you are getting your money’s worth.  The Tambu Lounge is also family friendly and serves up a mean virgin Shirley Temple with a glow cube for the littles.  My daughter enjoys relaxing here as much as we do.

Do you have a favorite cocktail at the Tambu Lounge inside of Disney’s Polynesian Resort?  Recommend one for me to try and I’ll review it on my next trip.
